Our family lived on Prince Edward Island when my mother left our father because of his drinking etc. I was about age eight and my sister age ten and our little brother. The house had no electic power and no running water. The farm house had not any insultion like today homes. We live mostly in two rooms downstairs in the winter because of the very cold weather. We had one kitchen stove for heat.of the two room downstairs. My mother had to go outside to the water well in a very small shed and carry the bucket to the house. We hadn't any bathroom in the house but a old fashen pot for toilet. life was hard for us. We had not a car either. We walked a long ways to a one room school house in New Glasgow. At night we had a oil lamp so nights were dark. In the spring I had my first veggie garden. I learn how to fish as I found a fishing hole and brought home and cooked my fish. I found bottles to exchange for money. I remember being hungery too. I learn to like carpenter work as I had my first start at an old fox house play house.
